Another Synod Update:

One of the reports given at the Senate was from the Commission on Overseas Ministry. This Commission has a line in the Diocesan budget, and focuses on giving to overseas churches and missions that need financial help. This is part of the work of our parish as well, as our tithes go to the Diocese and help support this. it works in conjunction with the Archbishop Haverland’s group, the St. Paul Mission Society (https://www.anglicancatholic.org/mission/), which also provides financial support overseas.

The Commission on Overseas Ministry takes particular care in making sure that the monies we provide are being used to the best effect possible. Part of this has been a process of improving communications with the overseas communities, so that we truly understand their needs, and they understand our desire for progress reports.

One very successful example has been working with Bishop Mushtaq Andrew in Pakistan. His vocational training centers allow young women to learn a useful trade so they can provide for themselves. The training centers are set up so that not only do the women learn a trade, but on successful graduation they also leave with the equipment necessary to be able to continue that trade. You will see examples of their work posted on the board leading to founders hall.

Another work is Bishop Alphonse Ndutiye in Cameroon. The mission was required by the government to enclose their compound with a block wall. We also provided funds to help them dig a well. This provides clean water for their medical clinic and for the people living in the compound. It also provides enough water that they can trade that water with the local government in exchange for electricity. It has allowed them a safe space to be able to offer medical services to the local community, and ease some of the natural friction with the local government.
